Fad dieting and why it’s not good for you

A fad diet is a weight loss strategy or aid that promises dramatic outcomes. These diets usually don't result in lasting weight loss, and they are not good for you. In fact, some of the fad diets are unsafe to your health. Excel Dental Studio defines few good reasons to avoid fad diets:

Weight Gain: Fad diets claim that they help you lose weight rapidly without difficulty with minimal energy from your part. Although this is what makes these diets appealing, this is also what makes them doubtful. According to Excel Dental Studio, the only way to efficiently lose weight and keep it off is by making lasting modifications to your standard of living, such as adapting a healthier diet and exercising frequently. However, making these changes are not easy nor fast. When you go on a fad diet, you probably lose weight in some days as you eat a very restricted diet. Unfortunately, most of the weight you lose is water weight. Once you stop the diet and continue with your regular lifestyle, the chances are that you gain the weight again- with a few extra pounds.

·         Changed Metabolism: Because most fad diets want you to eat organized quantity of food on a planned schedule, you end up upsetting your natural metabolic rate. Your body has a natural ability to tell you when to consume and when to stop consumption. Going against this natural pattern effect your metabolism adversely, and these adverse effects last long even after the diet.

·         Nutritional Deficiencies: Fad diets forbid you from eating certain types of food. Perhaps your diet requires you to cut out carbohydrates or any other fat from your everyday foods. It leads to serious nutritional deficiency. Carbohydrates are a major source of energy and depriving this nutrient can cause you to feel fatigued and unable to function normally.

·         Hair and Muscle Loss: The deficiencies that fad diets cause lead to disorders like hair loss and muscle loss. Your hair needs a good amount of protein to grow. When you don’t get sufficient protein in your diet, your hair ultimately loses its health. Deprived hair leads to brittleness that turns into breaking and detaching hair. Muscle loss is another adverse effect of fad diet. Since your diet is very low in calories, your body look for other ways to get energy. One of these ways is by breaking down your muscles. It is harmful to weight loss because muscles help you burn more calories even when you are at rest.
